Success Requires A Higher PurposeBut the DNA of the company, the thing that makes our heart beat, is a maniacal focus on making the best products in the world.  Not good products, or a lot of products, but the absolute best products in the world. In creating these great products we focus on enriching people’s lives — a higher cause for the products.  Tim Cook’s Freshman Year: The Apple CEO Speaks, Bloomberg Businessweek, Dec 10, 2012.

With the new year, not only resolve and plan to do better in what we do, but resolve to find a higher purpose in why we do it.

Making money along with getting promotions and recognition are fine motivators but it won’t last or it will be empty unless we contribute to more than just our own well being.

If you put your half-baked plan out there, and someone says “We tried that a while ago and it didn’t work for these reasons…” they have just saved you from wasting the time you would have spent completing a plan that was going in the wrong direction. This is a wonderful thing.

The hard part is that, as busy as everyone is these days, it can be difficult to get anyone to take the time to read the plan in depth. But at least you can give them the opportunity, and sometimes they do.

    Bruce Benson • Lynn,

Great point. Just putting the plan out there doesn’t mean anyone will take the time to look at it. I’ve always been pleasantly surprised out the feedback I get and so far it has always been worth it.

    Thanks for the feedback

I agree that you need to make sure that your project team is aware of what purpose/goal/problem your project’s output addresses and what it means in the grand scheme of things. Good reminder Bruce…Thanks
